Namibia denies donating Covid-19 kits to Zim
NAMIBIA has denied donating coronavirus test kits to Zimbabwe, following reports that it had donated 4 499 rapid result test kits.
The alleged controversial donation caused a row in Namibia, which has also been struggling to access test kits for its own citizens.
However, in a statement at the weekend, Namibia said it had not made any donation to Zimbabwe, saying that media reports relating to the alleged gift were false.
“In a formal response, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe informed that the allegations of the alleged donation of 4 499 testing kits from Namibia to Zimbabwe were unfounded and erroneous, and apologised for any inconveniences the reports might have caused,” Namibia International Relations and Cooperation ministry permanent secretary, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, said.
She said there was no such donation which had been made by Namibia to the government of Zimbabwe.
