THE late Harare businessman, biker and socialite Shingi Mukandi’s killer, Alfred Machipisa, has been sent to prison to serve a three-year jail term for culpable homicide.

Machipisa lost an appeal at the High Court after it upheld the decision of the lower court.
He absconded court and had to be issued with a warrant of arrest, resulting in him being nabbed late last month.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Richard Ramaboa on Monday, who cancelled the warrant and sent him to prison to serve his three-year jail term.
Machipisa was convicted of culpable homicide, failure to stop after an accident, failure to render assistance after an accident and failure to report an accident within 24 hours.
It was proved that on July 22, 2018 at around 9pm, Machipisa negligently and recklessly drove a white Isuzu KB300 double cab vehicle.
He was driving due west along Harare Drive while trailing Mukandi’s green Kawasaki motorcycle.
The court heard that after passing House No.201 Harare Drive in Mount Pleasant, Machipisa started speeding.
He failed to keep a proper lookout and also failed to keep a safe distance between himself and the motorcycle.
He hit the motorcycle from behind and due to the impact, Mukandi flew off the motorcycle and landed 70 metres away.
His body landed near the yellow line on the left side of the tarmac, while his motorcycle stopped about 150 metres away.
Machipisa fled the scene without rendering any assistance or checking if Mukandi was injured.
A passer-by discovered Mukandi’s body and called an ambulance.
The ambulance crew pronounced Mukandi dead at the scene of the accident.
