Women in court for threatening to kill complainant in perjury case

A HARARE woman – Elizabeth Parerenyatwa Mucheche – has appeared in court on charges of threatening to kill a businessman Brian Murphy  who is a complainant in her perjury case.

Elizabeth was facing perjury and threats when she appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi. Mangosi remanded Mucheche in custody to Friday for bail application while paving way for the mental health examination to be conducted.

The State submitted that  the accused is claiming that she was being driven by mbuya Nehanda to claim the estate which was stolen from her by Brian James Rhodes.

The State applied that the matter proceed  under  the terms of the mental health act.

Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi said they suspect that the accused was suffering from a mental illness.

The defence opposed the application arguing that the State has to prove must prove why she must go before a mental health examination.

Allegations are that sometime in October 2022 at 5 Woodbridge Close, Glenlorne Harare. 

Mucheche who is not related to the deceased Brian James Rhodes or legally appointed as an executor of the deceased estate generated a fake power of attorney which she alleged to have been signed by Anne Rhodes appointing her as an executor. 

The power of attorney was signed after Anne Rhodes had died giving clear evidence that it was not signed by Rhodes.

On the second count of threatening to kill the complainant, the court heard that  sometime in July 2024 at 5 Woodbridge Close, Glenlorne Close Harare,Mucheche met  the complainant and threatened to kill him after he had reported a case of perjury against her at ZRP Highlands.
