More quarantine escapees nabbed
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of more escapees from quarantine centres, bringing the total number of those arrested to 29.
A total of 169 people have so far escaped form quarantine centres, which house scores of people returning to the country following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The total number of escapees from various centres across the country is now 169. Three escapees, who escaped from Rupangwana Centre, Chiredzi on May 28, 2020, were arrested on June 8, 2020, bringing the total number of arrested escapees to 29,” national police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said yesterday.
Nyathi said in light of the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, the public was supposed to adhere to safety guidelines and regulations put in place by the government to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Zimbabwe currently has 320 confirmed cases, four deaths and 46 recoveries.
The country has been under lockdown since March, as a way of seeking to contain the spread of the disease.
