Man ‘rapes’ girl (5)

If this war is to be won, both men and women should raise their voices against rape.

AN EPWORTH man is in trouble after he allegedly raped a five-year-old girl.

Joseph Munyarardzi Matura, 29, on Tuesday appeared before Harare magistrate Denis Mangosi, who remanded him to November 11 after advising him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Allegations are that last Friday at around 2000 hours, the complainant’s mother left the girl at Matura’s house during the night as she went to work.

The girl’s mother came back the following morning and took her child home, but Matura had already left for work.

Later that day, the girl’s aunt discovered an unusual discharge on her private parts as she was bathing her.

The court heard that the aunt asked the girl about the discharge and she told her that she had been raped by Matura.

The aunt told the girl’s mother, who reported the matter to the police, leading to Matura’s arrest.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
