Man bashes sister over US$5 debt

A BULAWAYO man has found himself in the dock for allegedly assaulting his sister after she demanded US$5 which he had borrowed from her.  Trust Makanyire from Entumbane suburb was remanded out of custody to December 16 when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Njanja yesterday.

Prosecutors told the court that sometime in the month of October 2021, Trust borrowed US$5 from his sister Svodai and he promised to return it by the end of that month. It is alleged that at that time Trust was going to Masvingo so he wanted to use the money for his journey.

However, when he came back from Masvingo by the end of October, he did not repay Svodai back her money.

When she called him asking for the money, he allegedly started insulting her on the phone.

On December 5, Svodai reportedly went to Trust’s house and asked him for the money and that is when he began to assault her. He reportedly assaulted her several times with fists on her head and face. After assaulting his sister, Trust gave her the money and she left.

Svodai is said to have sustained some injuries on her left eye and she is also suffering from headaches as a result of the assault.
