Machete gang strikes in Sakubva
FOUR robbers armed with machetes, a pistol and an axe robbed a Sakubva couple of US$1 600, $40, a smartphone and car keys in their home in Chimera suburb.
The robbers, who initially claimed to be cops, struck in the wee hours.
Nhamo Mataka, 44, the victim, refused to open the door upon realising that they were all wearing masks and armed. They were unperturbed by the family’s barking dogs.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said when Matika opened his window to investigate he had a gun pointed at him by one of the robbers.
“The robber then fired three shots in the air while his colleagues broke the door with unknown objects to gain entry into the house,” Kakohwa said.
Upon entering, they ordered Mataka and his wife Winner Chadya to lie down while demanding cash and valuables.
They were given the money, car keys and a Huawei P33 smartphone.
