Local movie up for continental award

ALL EYES will be at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony today where local movie Veza: The Unfolding is in the running for a gong in the Best Movie in Southern Africa category.

The awards, to be hosted by South African television personality Bonang Matheba and Nigerian Big Brother host IK Osakioduwa, will be televised live from Lagos, Nigeria on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

It is the second nomination the local thriller has received since it premiered on November 27, 2021 having been nominated for the Outstanding Screen Production in the National Art Merit Awards early this year.

The action-packed thriller, co-directed by Dumie Manyathela, Rodney Mabaleka and DaKudu, follows detective Mxolisi Moyo, an ambitious undercover recruit in the Zimbabwe police force, based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Mxolisi is thrust into a world of Crime as he guns for the city’s kingpin — Cain Hadasi — in his quest to expose the drug syndicate plaguing the city. He is forced to confront his shameful past as the investigation reveals some shocking truths that tip the delicate balance between the police force and the city’s notorious crime family — the Hadasis.

“It has been amazing witnessing the journey of how our small team of creatives has made such an impact with just a collective dream and a collaborative effort in creating this amazing project,” the film executive producer Rodney Mabaleka said.

The AMVCA is an annual awards presentation done by Multichoice to recognise outstanding achievers in film and television in Africa.

“We are ecstatic about the nomination, it has shown us that our hard work and tears have resulted in something great, helping us show the world our talents and passion for film,” Mabaleka added.
