Licence hike notice fake: Zinara

THE Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) has said that the motor vehicle licence increase notice being circulated on some sections of social media is fake.

In a statement yesterday Zinara said: “Zinara is a statutory body that falls under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development. Therefore, any review of licence tariffs is done by the parent ministry and is gazetted.”

The roads authority urged the public to disregard the message and not to panic, saying the fake information was aimed at causing alarm and despondency.

The social media message that circulated purported that licence fees had been increased by over 500 percent, going up from $200 to $2 000 per term.

Currently, Zinara charges $200 for light motor vehicles of up to 1 500kg and $1 500 per term with vehicles weighing between 9 251 and 10 000kg paying $1 500 per term. The last increase was in December last year following the August 2019 review that had increased the fees from $20 that vehicle owners paid per term then.
