Killer kombi driver jailed
AN unlicenSed kombi driver has been jailed for an effective 12 months in prison for fatally hitting a pedestrian.
Charles Mutandiko, 39, was convicted of culpable homicide and driving without a valid driver’s licence and he was slapped with 12 months’ imprisonment on each count which will run concurrently.
Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko also banned him from driving a public transport vehicle for life.
It is said on May 31, Mutandiko was driving a kombi in Hatcliffe along 38 Street due south, a road which the now deceased was also walking on.
The court heard that he got to an intersection and hit the now deceased Violet Tenderi on the back and she fell before Mutandiko ran over her leg.
The court condemned Mutandiko’s actions saying he was not cautious on the day as it was proved that the road had many pedestrians and he ought to have observed caution. The magistrate said only a custodial sentence is suitable for the offence.
