Haz introduces free online courses
THE Hockey Association Zimbabwe (Haz) is set to introduce free online coaching courses for beginners on the 13th of this month in their bid to develop and spread the sport to all corners of the country.
With the country currently under lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a blanket ban on all sporting activities, Haz has taken that opportunity to improve some areas within their federation. Haz coaching development committee member Tendayi Maredza said they are taking advantage of the current lockdown to lure more coaches into the sport.
“These courses are for beginners and anyone interested in hockey is free to attend. “Basically, the courses are important because once the kids get the right fundamentals from the right people with required qualifications, they will be able to grow and transform themselves into professional players.
“Having a lot of good coaches in the country helps the sport to become competitive and attract more players and fans,” Maredza told the Daily News.
Due to the current lockdown, Haz is looking forward to having more online courses up until they are allowed to have physical courses by the authorities.
“We stand guided by the SRC and the ministry as for now we are not doing anything physical but once we are given the greenlight to resume sport, then we can have a full calendar of events for now we are focusing on online business,” Maredza added.
