A 71-YEAR-OLD man from Chief Chikwanda in Gutu, Masvingo, was slapped with a 10-year jail term for raping his 15-year-old granddaughter. 

The man, whose identity cannot be revealed to protect the minor, appeared before Masvingo magistrate Patience Madondo facing rape charges. 

Prosecutors told the court that on August 13 the accused was coming from a beer drink when he met his grandchild. 

He allegedly dragged the teenager into a secluded area and pushed her to the ground before raping her. 

After the rape, the minor could not walk properly and the matter came to light when she told her mother and the matter was reported to the police. 

The grandfather told the court that he does not recall anything that occurred on the day in question as he was too drunk.
