Elephant tusks land man in jail
A HARARE man has been jailed to an effective nine years after he was caught with two elephant tusks and soliciting for buyers.
Joshua Khumalo, 54, was convicted of unlawful possession of unmarked ivory when he appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga yesterday.
The court heard that on May 20, detectives from CID Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit received information that Khumalo was in possession of ivory.
The detectives went to his location in the central business district and saw him carrying a sack on his shoulder and asked for a search which he agreed to.
Two elephant tusks were then recovered.
Asked to produce a permit which authorised him to possess or deal in raw ivory, he failed, which led to his arrest.
