POPULAR comedian Doc Vikela and his Simuka Comedy team have launched a comic series focusing on the country’s presidency.
Titled Vakuru, the series which is shared on various social media platforms revolves around the presidency as Doc Vikela spotting the trademark scarf portrays President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s image while also mimicking his accent.
Doc Vikela told the Daily News that the show is aimed at bringing people closer to the president (vakuru) in a comic way.
“This is a show to get people closer to the presidency and try and involve them in the conversations. It is a light-hearted show about the country’s leadership. This is something we feel has not been done, getting into the head of State’s mind and generating something around it.”
He said this is based on real events and not in any way an attack to the presidency and more episodes of Vakuru focusing on various communities are coming.
“This is not an attack, not insults but just appreciation of vakuru in a humorous way,” he said.
One of the episodes was crafted around the discussions at the Political Actors Dialogue with the comedians successfully imitating the players.
Dreadlocked comedian CKhanyiso played the role of Brian Mteki also known as Sekuru Tau much to the pleasure of comedy lovers.
The other episode followed publicised reports of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga visiting Mnangagwa’s farm at his farm at a time he was on his annual leave.
The comedians imitate and portray what the two did during the visit based on the published news items, including a tour of the maize field.
They also engage in discussion of the current contentious maize meal and coupons issue.
