Covid-19 cases increase to 31
THE number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country has gone up to 31 after three new cases were recorded on Saturday.
The Health and Child Care ministry’s permanent secretary Agnes Mahomva yesterday said two of the new cases were due to local transmission and were from Mashonaland West, while the other one was recorded in Harare.
“Of the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests done in Harare, three were positive for Covid-19 and all the PCR tests done in Bulawayo today (Saturday) were negative
“Two cases of the three … were due to local transmission. All three cases are stable, and not in hospital. More details to follow,” Mahomva said in an update.
The government recently said it was further tightening its national coronavirus lockdown measures by clamping down on unnecessary travel between the country’s urban and rural areas. The move comes as the government is also trying to trace people who made contact with an 82-year-old woman from Mhondoro who recently died from Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the government is targeting to test over 33 000 people for Covid-19 by the end of this month. However, only 6 067 have been tested so far.
