Cops, soldier die in accident

TWO police officers and a soldier died in a road traffic accident which claimed the lives of a total of five people at Fort Rixon in the early hours of yesterday morning. 

The accident occurred at the 366km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo road when a Mitsubishi minibus collided head-on with a Nissan UD truck resulting in the death of the five, who were in the minibus. 

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 366 km peg along Harare-Bulawayo road near Kombo area, Fort Rixon where a Mitsubishi minibus had a head on collision with a Nissan UD truck on September 26 at 0300 hours. 

“All the five occupants in the minibus, who include two ZRP members, a ZNA member and yet to be identified male adult died in the unfortunate road accident,” the police said. 

Recently, three people died in another accident including the mother and her daughter when a pirate kombi burst its tyre and collided head-on with a bus along Chiremba Road in the capital leaving several others injured. 

Three other people also died along the Bulawayo – Victoria Falls highway when their vehicle burst its rear tyre and hit a tree, leaving others seriously injured. 

The driver, a police officer, died on the spot.
