FUN City Theatre has partnered with Chitungwiza Arts Centre to launch a monthly poetry slam in the town.
The poetry platform will be launched on September 5 at Chitungwiza Arts Centre.

“Despite Chitungwiza being one of the three largest towns in the country and home to some of the finest artists, more still needs to be done to awaken this sleeping town in terms of performing arts,” Fun City director Noel “Sekemutema” Marerwa said.

There are no public arts facilities in Chitungwiza.

“Chitungwiza has neither a single theatre auditorium nor does it host a single arts event on its calendar. It is with this in mind that I have partnered with Chitungwiza Arts Centre with a view to ignite the performing arts and to provide a platform for such activities,” he said.

Marerwa said the event is open to all.

“Poets from the town and those from outside are therefore invited to attend the inaugural gathering of the poets of Chitungwiza Poetry Slam to be held from 10 am to 12 noon.

“We are happy that finally we now have a home of our own. Come and let us showcase our talents to the world. Some of the poets who confirmed their attendance include renowned academic, author and poet Ignatius Mabasa, Felix Mutasa and Poyetik Eneji, who all hail from the town,” he said.
