BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) has been forced to temporarily shut down Princess Margaret Rose Clinic after one of the nurses at the institution tested positive for Covid-19.
Princess Margaret Ross Clinic is located in the Central Business District.
This comes after Phelandaba Clinic, also owned by the local authority, was closed to allow it to undergo fumigation after a reported case of the virus.
Director of health services in Bulawayo Edwin Sibanda confirmed the new development.
“The clinic would be fumigated from today (Thursday) to tomorrow (Friday).
“It had not been closed yet, but we are closing it temporarily while services would be scaled down,” he said, adding that nurses who were working at the clinic would be sent home where they would be tested for Covid-19.
“Their test samples would be done and collected from their homes,” he said without elaborating the number of nurses that have been affected.
The closure of the clinic comes after Western Commonage Magistrates’ Courts in the city were last week shut down for fumigation after one of the prosecutors tested positive for the deadly virus, stalling various court cases.
Recently, prison officers at Bulawayo Prison had to go into isolation after five cases were recorded at the institution.
So far, Bulawayo is leading in Covid-19 deaths with 17 followed by Harare with 10. At least 786 have tested positive for the virus in the city according to Wednesday’s Health ministry figures.
