BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) on Tuesday received personal protective equipment donations from a group of Zimbabweans living abroad which will assist in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The donation comprised 25 litres of sanitisers, 80 green bar soaps, 260 medical masks and 30 boxes of gloves, and was handed over by the Christian Brothers College (CBC) Old Boys Association on behalf of the donors.

“We want to thank our brothers and sisters who are out of the country and have gone out of their way to source this donation to assist Bulawayo,” mayor Solomon Mguni said.

“The gesture of goodwill will save lives and make sure there’s success in the fight against Covid-19 in Bulawayo.”
Mguni added that the donation will assist the city’s frontline health staff members who have been working tirelessly for the safety of Bulawayo residents.

“These are the people who put their lives at risk to make sure the spread of this virus is curbed,” he said.
“Covid-19 has disrupted lives globally and Zimbabwe has not been spared. It is donations like these that go a long way in helping families and individuals who have been affected by Covid-19.”

This comes as Bulawayo has recorded 12 positive cases, including four recoveries and one death.
