Body stuck in morgue for over three months

POLICE are appealing to relatives of a man who succumbed to a road traffic accident some three months ago to come and collect the body which has been stuck at Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary for the past three months.

The man passed away after he was involved in an accident along the Gokwe-Kwekwe road on October 20, 2020 this year.

Midlands police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday said the body was retrieved from a Honda Fit that crashed at Tiger Reef Junction at around 2.45am on the said day.

Ever since the accident, the body of the deceased, who is believed to be in his 30s, had been kept at Kwekwe mortuary.

“The deceased is dark in complexion, approximately 30 years, medium built and approximately 1.5metres in height. He was wearing a red shirt inscribed Manchester United, black pair of jeans and black shoes when his body was discovered,” he said.

Mahoko appealed to members of the public with a missing person to approach Kwekwe police.

“It has been three months now without anyone coming forward to identify the body. We appeal to members of the public who might have a missing relative to come forward. The body is still at Kwekwe mortuary,” he said.

Mahoko said police were concerned with people who move around without identity particulars, saying it was making it difficult for the police to positively identify them in case of emergency like accidents.

“Members of the public are urged to carry identification particulars whenever they are at all times. This makes it easy to identify them when need arises. It is also important to inform close people when one is travelling,” he said.
