Bhadella mulls closing shop

BHADELLA Wholesalers which has been operational in Zimbabwe for the past 87 years wants to close shop due to the harsh economic environment whereby the shop is no longer profitable.

The company’s lawyer Everson Samukange, of Samukange and Hungwe Legal Practitioners told the Daily News yesterday that the issue is still under consideration by management and nothing has been finalised as yet.

“Closing shop is something that is under serious consideration by the management. We will issue a full statement tomorrow (today) on the correct standing,” he said.

“The reason behind such a decision emanates from the current economic situation whereby the informal sector has taken over the economy and tuckshops have taken over the role of wholesalers. So, right now Bhadella cannot operate profitably when it is competing with informal traders.”
