MARVELOUS Nakamba’s Luton Town appear headed for relegation to the English third tier League One after a 2-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road yesterday.
Nakamba, the Warriors captain, was a starter in the match for Luton, but was unable to inspire his side to a positive result that would have gone a long way towards easing their relegation worries.
Instead, the Hatters, who prop up the England Championship’s 24-team log standings with 28 points from 34 games, fell to their 20thh defeat in 34 games, leaving them five point off safety with 12 games to play. As for their opponents Watford, the win in the famed M1 derby marked the end of a dismal run of five successive home defeats.
Tom Dele-Bashiru put them ahead from the penalty spot after Mamadou Doumbia was brought down and Edo Kayembe doubled the advantage with a simple tap-in.
Luton, who had won only one of their 26 previous away games across two seasons, failed to produce a meaningful effort on target in the opening half, with boss Matt Bloomfield still searching for his first success since taking charge in mid-January.
Bloomfield replaced Rob Edwards, who brought Nakamba to Luton from Aston Villa and is still trying to get a winning formula and for the last two matches, Nakamba became a victim of his search for the right codes.
Their squad was revamped in the winter transfer window, but with some players new to English football and others stepping up from League One, he is banking on a fast gel, which has yet to happen. The victory lifts Watford to ninth in the Championship, three points outside the play-off places. — BBC/Sports Writer
