13 more nurses test positive for coronavirus at Mpilo hospital
THE Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) is concerned over the poor working conditions of nurses which it attributed to the sudden spike in numbers of its members who have been exposed to the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
This comes after 13 more Mpilo Central Hospital nurses tested positive to Covid-19, bringing to 14 the total number of nurses affected by the virus from the institution.
Speaking to Daily News yesterday, Zina secretary-general Enock Dongo said the latest figures are a cause for concern.
“We really have a big challenge here because remember a few months ago, we protested against the absence of (personal protective equipment) PPE for frontline workers and this is exactly what we were trying to avoid,” Dongo said
Mpilo acting chief executive officer Solwayo Ngwenya said: “We are intensifying our surveillance system by testing contacts here at the hospital and we will make sure that we will make PPE widely available for use by health workers.”
