The event, organised by BonVie Medical Aid Scheme, included other activities such as wellness checks, zumba and lots of give-aways.

SCORES of entertainment and fitness enthusiasts made the ‘Let’s Go Hiking’ event a success over the weekend as they climbed the Domboshava Mountains for fun.

The event, organised by BonVie Medical Aid Scheme, included other activities such as wellness checks, zumba and lots of give-aways.

“The idea is to promote health and wellness in the society. We are glad that everything went according to plan. People have fun and we are planning to take the event to other areas, starting with local ones, till we reach the famous Kilimanjaro Mountain,”

BonVie Medical Aid Scheme Group managing director Thembelihle Mloyi-Ncube, inset, said. Apart from promoting health and wellness, the event held on Saturday was also meant to promote domestic tourism as people got the chance to visit the Domboshava Caves which are characterised by animal paintings.

“Mountains are good places for exercises mainly because of their terrain, natural breeze and charming surroundings. Our main thrust as an organisation is to see people fit and happy hence exercising is one of the effective ways of keeping illness at bay,” she said.

Located in the Chinhamora communal lands, the mountain commands a magnificent 360 degrees view of the surrounding countryside.

The area is loaded with a number of tourist attractions features including the imposing ancient San rock art, geological formations and a natural scenic environment with wooded vegetation, a flowing stream and pools (in the rainy season) and myriad walking trails.

The area, which is under the custodianship of National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe, is a short drive from Harare. Its name is derived from dombo meaning “hill” and shava meaning “red”, literally translated as ‘the red rock.’
