Macheso commissions ECD block in Shamva…pays fees for 109 children

SUNGURA music star Alick Macheso, pictured, will today officially commission an early childhood development (ECD) block at his former school, Enterprise Primary School.
Macheso hails from Shamva and it is not only the classroom block that the community will cherish as he will pay school fees for 109 underprivileged pupils at the school.
“I was assisted by many people so I will also assist others by any means. This is a pledge we made last year and we have fulfilled it,” he said.
His management said they will have a mini-concert as part of celebrating the commissioning with a number of entertainers set to take part.
“We will commission the ECD block we pledged being helped by EMH Holdings as part of giving back to the community.
“We also managed to pay school fees for 109 pupils and we will continue to assist the less privileged. We are planning to hold a mini-concert for the people as part of the celebrations,” Macheso’s publicist Tich Makahamadze told the Daily News.
Meanwhile, Macheso who is often referred to as chigure in showbiz circles said he is not bothered by the moniker which is part of his cultural upbringing.
On Monday a video of the singer playing a drum and having photo moments with nyau dancers circulated which he said was at rehearsals for the just ended National Arts Merit Awards.
The singer has embraced the culture and at one point in Bindura he left his guitar to engage in a dance with a fan showcasing nyau drills.

At his shows, his dancers also showcase the dances with him imitating the drums with his guitar.
“There is nothing wrong about that, this is part of culture and it does not bother me,” he said.
In Shamva today, Macheso might encounter the nyau dancers as they are very active in this farming area.
