Covid-19 disrupts Macheso . . . as he shelves release of new music this year

SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso will most likely release a new album next year despite speculation being rife that new singles will be out before year-end, his camp has said.

There were a lot of expectations from his legion of fans after the musician promised new music this year but Covid-19 has continued to be an impediment to his plans.

Speaking to the Daily News, the musician’s publicist Tich Makahamadze said the situation on the ground is pointing to next year.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic has interfered with their plans forcing them to shelve and postpone a number of things.

“A lot is on the cards but we are now looking at next year. It was our wish and hope that we give our followers something this year but Covid-19 continues to curtail all the plans.

“We have been reading a lot of stories on social media but currently there is nothing concrete for this year,” he said.

In 2020, Macheso released the single Zuro Ndizuro coming after the 2018 album Dzinosvitsa Kure

The singer has revealed that he is hoping to have several collaborations with singers from other countries.

“We met Makhadzi at the Mapungubwe Festival in Polokwane and we spoke and it is my hope that we will engage and work on something.

“There is also a similar development with Roga Roga of Extra Musica. We have spoken and if there are no hindrances, we will have something together.

“We learn from them and they also learn from us and joining hands will probably give us something huge,” Macheso said earlier this year.

Covid-19 resulted in the musician shelving live shows for almost two years only to resume this year after the relaxation lockdown restrictions.

He has held several shows in the country and in South Africa.

“When we thought we were getting back on track, another wave has emerged and we will only be guided by health authorities on the next course of action.

“We have always complied and we will continue to comply with directives by authorities,” Makahamadze said
