DeMbare to get $100k for Katema

© HARARE giants Dynamos are set to pocket US$100 000 for striker Evans Katema, who is on the verge of signing for Zambian side Zanaco, the Daily News has established.

Katema, who was voted among the 11 Soccer Stars of the Year for the 2019 Castle Lager Premiership season, has one year left on his current deal with the Glamour Boys after joining from relegated Mushowani Stars during the mid-season transfer window.

The 31-year-old is one of the most sought-after players following his impressive displays for both Mushowani and Dynamos to finish the season as the second top goal scorer with 12 goals behind former Chicken Inn striker Clive Augusto, who had 14 strikes.

It appears the way has now been cleared for the striker to join Zanaco after he flew out of the country yesterday for his medicals with the Daily News reliably informed that the Zambian giants have already agreed to fork out $100 000 for his services.

Dynamos have already turned down overtures from reigning Castle Lager Premiership side FC Platinum, who were offering US$20 000 for the striker, while the likes of Chicken Inn, CAPS United and Highlanders have all also seen their bids turned down.

“Katema is Dynamos’ most priced assert judging by the calibre of players in their ranks currently. Several local clubs were after him, but DeMbare bosses were not willing to release him for cheap,” a source revealed to the Daily News.

“There was nothing Dynamos would do after Zanaco came in before agreeing on US$100 000. It appears a good business for the club.

“Both parties have since agreed on the fee and all things being equal he should sign.”

There is no doubt Dynamos will use large parts of the money to sign new players in their bid to assemble a strong side that can compete in the 2020 season.

Dynamos had an indifferent campaign last year which saw them settling for a disappointing ninth place having started with Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe before he was replaced by Tonderai Ndiraya after only four matches into the season.

While Ndiraya was credited for stabilising the ship, the former Ngezi Platinum Stars coach bemoaned a lack of quality in his squad and hopes to rectify their shortcomings by buying wisely during this transfer window.

At a time when their rivals are being linked with some big names on the transfer market, apart from the returning defender Partson Jaure, Dynamos executive has been unveiling some unheralded players in Tanaka Chidhobha, Lennox Mutsetse and Nkosi Mhlanga.

With the sale of Katema, Dynamos are hoping to attract more quality players that can fight for the club in the 2020 season.
Some of the names being linked with Dynamos include Ian Nyoni, Ian Nekati, Devon Chafa and Never Tigere among others.
