© HARARE Athletic Club (Hac) kick-starts their 2020 season with the cross country championships scheduled for Morris Depot in Harare on Saturday.
The race — dubbed Hac Board Season Opener Cross Country Championships — is set to feature various divisions including cadets boys and girls, who are expected to cover the 2km distance.
Under-18 men and women will compete over a 4km course, with the Under-20 men and women as well the Open men and women going through two kilometres more, 6km and 8km respectively.
The race is set for an 8am start.
Hac secretary-general Sledge Ambrose Chinyoka said the race is a build-up to the exciting inter-provincials set for Harare next month.
“On February 15 we will be having the inter-provincial cross country championships here in the capital. Saturday’s event is part of our preparations for the competition,” Chinyoka told the Daily News yesterday.
“It’s going to be an exciting event where we believe all the athletes will be self-motivated on the day considering what’s at stake; winners will represent the country in Norway later in the year.”
Hac board is the governing board for athletics in Harare Metropolitan Province and is an affiliate of National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe and also an affiliate of the Harare Athletic Board.
