Chiedza Chevatendi collaborates with Zhakata, Manyeruke

HARARE – Mazorodze Gadzikwa, a member of the gospel acapella group, Chiedza Chevatendi, has released his second solo album titled Chiporofita Chozadziswa which features collaborations with music stars Leonard Zhakata, Mechanic Manyeruke and Blessing Shumba.

The six-track album, which also features upcoming artistes Israel Dick and Luckie Kaparautsi, was recorded at Diamond Studios.

“I featured Zhakata on Ndimi Munondichengeta and Baba Manyeruke on Africa-Zimbabwe and Shumba on Tsime Rehupenyu.

“It took me about two months to work on all the collaborations. This album is a special one considering that I have worked with my legends including Zhakata and Manyeruke among others,” the 32-year-old Gadzikwa said.

The upcoming musician, whose debut album was Tiri Vashe, insisted that he remains a member of the Chegutu-based apostolic group, Chiedza Chevatendi.

“In Chiedza Chevatendi, we specialise in acapella but the love of electric guitars forced me to release solo projects using live instruments,” he said.

Chiedza Chevatendi, famed for hit songs such as Kubva Pamakatisika and Ivhu Kuvhu recently released their 11th studio project and latest album titled Munyaradzi Jesu which is a dedication to their late lead vocalist Tapiwa Chibaya who succumbed to kidney failure last year.

“We would like to thank our fans for their support. After the death of Chibaya who was our pillar we thought the group was heading for doom but fans kept supporting us, it was so amazing. Our fans’ support encourages us to soldier on and we shall continue with the journey,” Gadzikwa said.

Chiedza Chevatendi was formed in 2003 in Chegutu by 11 members.

The group became a hit after releasing albums such as Ngatimukudzei Mwari, Ivhu Kuvhu, Uchanotaura Chokwadi and Kubva Pamakatisika among others.
