HARARE – South Africa-based comedian Pepukai “Baba Tencen” Zvemhari will share the stage with National Art Merit Awards (Nama) winner Doc Vikela and top Bulawayo jester Clive Chigubu at Marimba Restaurant in Cape Town on May 28.
Baba Tencen, whose comedy skits on social media earned him R100 000 from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, is expected to light up the event that has been dubbed “Zim Comedy Night”.
He confirmed the Cape Town gig on his Facebook page.
“Cape Town makati munotida ko, zvino tovuyako (You said you want us there, so we are coming) May 28, 2016 paMarimba Restaurant,” he posted.
Baba Tencen has garnered international prominence thanks to a series of riveting video clips that include Kuripwa Kugara, Kuripwa Zvihuta, Kuripwa Kugara muinformal settlement, How I got out of trouble in Mozambique and many more.
Doc Vikela is looking forward to sharing the stage with Baba Tencen. Though the reigning Nama Comedian of The Year has gone toe to toe with top African comedians such as Barry Hilton, Annie Kansiime and Carl Joshua Ncube, he is convinced that Baba Tencen is a quality joker.
“It is always an exciting experience to invade foreign lands and make people laugh. Baba Tencen is on top of his game and I also promise to deliver my best.
“I have performed in South Africa on a number of occasions and I’m looking to spread my wings in other parts of the continent like Uganda (July) and Botswana (September) among other areas,” said Doc Vikela, adding that he would continue to work until he gets a chance to perform on the same stage with Chris Rock.
“Chris Rock zvazvinhu (is prominent) and I know one day I will be in his league,” he told the Daily News.
