HARARE – Harare Sports Club sneaked into the semi-finals of the local rugby qualifiers for the South African Gold Cup after defeating Old Johannians 33-19 in a Harare Rugby League match at Morris Depot on Saturday.
Sportivo now face log leaders Old Georgians in a semi-final encounter to be hosted by OGs while Old Hararians, currently in second place travel to Bulawayo for a date against a team from Matabeleland.
The Red Lions got into the weekend fixture faced with a possibility of crashing out of the qualifiers as they led their opponents OJs by just a single point.
In another match, OG maintained their unbeaten run in the league with a 26-6 win over OH. The Police Defenders men’s side edged Mutare Sports Club 29-24 to register their first win of the season.
League representative Francorn Mutare threw his weight behind the Morris Depot rugby facility saying it has all the potential to host international matches.
“The matches went on well with good attendances. The ground is fit for internationals in all aspects- sitting area, changing rooms, pitch and the VIP area is perfect,” Mutare said.
