HARARE – Songbird Selmor Mtukudzi and her husband Tendai Manatsa will hold a joint album launch at La Rouge in Westgate tonight.
Selmor, daughter of music legend Oliver Mtukudzi, will launch an album titled I am Woman while her husband will unleash Bhomba, an album which derived its title from his nickname.
Tracks on Selmor’s nine-track album are Ndinaye Wangu, Remember Girls, Sorry Babe featuring Buffalo Soldier, Mwana Asingacheme, I Am Woman, Ndinochengetwa featuring Mathius Mhere, Zvidikidiki, Baba Vevana and Butterflies.
On Bhomba, Tendai featured his famous father Zexie Manatsa on the track Nyadenga while his London-based brother Aaron featured on the song Vanodanwa. He also collaborated with rapper Stunner on the song Ndichifema.
Other songs on Tendai’s album are Totenda Dzanwa, Kunyeperwa, Kuvhetemesa and Pfumo.
Selmor’s other albums are Shungu and Expressions which carries the hit song Nguva Yangu that was nominated in National Arts Merit Awards (Nama).
Tendai, has jokingly described his seven-track album as far better than that of Selmor.
“Selmor stands no chance on this one,” said the former Afrika Revenge guitarist whose other album is Kudzoka Kwababa which he released in 2011.
Until their 2014 “musical split,” Selmor and Tendai had released two joint albums Ndinewe (I am With You) and Tendai and Selmor Live.
Tonight’s double album launch is being organised by Strides Hospitality and Entertainment Group.
