HARARE – Dynamos have resolved to sack coach Paulo Jorge Silva and his entire technical team after this weekend’s Castle Lager Premiership match against FC Platinum.
The Portuguese gaffer, who arrived at the Glamour Boys without a clear football background, has failed to get the desired results in the previous five games.
The Glamour Boys have only won once by beating newly-promoted Mutare City Rovers while losing to Chicken Inn, CAPS United and drawing with Triangle and Hwange.
Silva’s off-field behaviour has also been cause for concern after he clashed with a number of people during his short reign at the Harare giants.
The Portuguese had a high-profile fall-out with his assistant Gift “Umbro” Muzadzi over a number of issues.
Silva also had a confrontation with Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministries leader Walter Magaya during Dynamos’ friendly match with the popular preacher’s Yadah FC at Hellenics Sports Club a couple of months ago.
The DeMbare executive yesterday held a meeting with their influential board members where a unanimous decision to sack Silva was reached.
Club president Kenni Mubaiwa did not attend yesterday’s meeting as he is currently preoccupied with his personal business.
DeMbare secretary-general Webster Chikengezha was not picking up his phone by the time of going to print but sources inside the club told the Daily News about the resolution to sack Silva.
“The only reason Silva has been allowed to take charge of this weekend’s game is because Mubaiwa is not available to sanction the appointment of a new coach,” said the source.
“After Sunday’s game, Silva and his deputies will go and a new coach will be unveiled on Monday.”
Speaking earlier with the Daily News before the decision to relieve him of his duties had been reached, Silva had called for patience as he was still building a team which would challenge for honours.
“I am not worried at all if they kick me out; it’s good for me,” Silva told the Daily News.
“The players are improving and I am happy with that.
“It’s not like we are playing badly; we were unlucky in some of these matches. I have seen progress from match to match.”
Dynamos have a huge task in their next league match where they will play against in-form FC Platinum.
The platinum miners have renewed confidence after missing the championship last season and are currently in second place on the table joint on 13 points with leaders CAPS United.
