HARARE – Music stars Jah Prayzah and Winky D have lauded their association with the Castle Tankard-Africa’s oldest sponsored horse race.
The two celebrated artistes, who attracted arguably the biggest crowd this year when they held a joint concert at Bulawayo Amphitheatre last weekend, are relishing another chance to entertain their fans at the Castle Tankard.
Jah Prayzah and Winky D will perform alongside Ex Q and DJ Stavo at the 56th edition of the Castle Tankard set for the Borrowdale Park Racecourse tomorrow.
Winky D’s manager Jonathan Banda told the Daily News that the singer’s professionalism has endeared him well with Delta Corporation, the organisers of the prestigious race.
“We have never disappointed; that is the long and short of it. He performs there (Castle Tankard) year in, year out because he delivers.
“A big brand like Delta will never partner with an artiste who lacks in professionalism. Winky D is always punctual and up to the task. On Saturday (tomorrow), we promise yet another great and professional performance,” said Banda.
At last year’s edition, Winky D shared the stage with Tocky Vibes and Suluman Chimbetu. It is not surprising that the Castle Tankard organisers have decided to retain only Winky D whose profile was propelled to new heights by his latest album Gafa Life.
After missing last year’s edition, Jah Prayzah is delighted to be making a comeback tomorrow.
Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mushapaidze told the Daily News that the award-winning artiste is looking forward to entertaining his fans in what is expected to be the biggest Castle Tankard crowd in history.
“Last year, we did not participate at the Castle Tankard but we are happy that this year we have been included again.
“We really love to be part of these big events as we tend to add one or two new fans to our fan base,” said Mushapaidze.
Delta Corporation marketing manager Patricia Murambinda said this year’s edition of the Castle Tankard will have more entertainment activities.
“This year marks an important history in the Castle Tankard event in the country’s horse racing calendar as we launch not only the 54th Edition of the Castle Tankard Event together with our partners Mashonaland Turf Club but also the Castle Tankard Double Booster Promotion.
“This is the first time ever that consumers of all lager beer brands participating in the running all brands promotion Cash Booster Promotion will get an opportunity to get their grand draw prize money doubled up by Castle on the grand draw day if they are present at the draw.
“This year, the grand draw for the all brands cash booster promotion will be held at the Castle Tankard event on the 7th of May 2016 at the Borrowdale Race Course.
The prizes for the grand draw are as follows 1st prize $3 000, 2nd prize $2 000 and 3rd prize $1 000 and $500 consolation prizes to 60 winners. The first 3 prizes will be doubled up if the winners are at the race course on race day,” she said.
To cater for diverse entertainment tastes, the organisers have included an African fashion show which has been dubbed “Rocking the African Print”.
The fashion show will be coordinated by Stylist Wilbert Rukato a life time achievement award-winner in the modelling industry, owner and founder of Size4 modelling agency.
Rukato is also founding member and the official spokesperson of The Modelling Industry Association of Zimbabwe (Miaz).
