SA comedian Vlismas returns to Harare

HARARE – South African comedian John Vlismas returns to Harare on May 28 for a show set for Reps Theatre dubbed “Laugh Out Loud Ha-ha-ha-Harare.”

The month-end comedy gig is being organised by Xtratime Entertainment who have promised to line up similar shows.

“Following successful shows in Harare where we have hosted international comics like Goliath and Goliath, Anne Kansiime, and just recently Barry Hilton as well as promising local comics, Xtratime Entertainment is happy to add John Vlismas to the list of comedy shows to look out for.

“We are merely answering calls from comedy enthusiasts to bring him back after such a long time. John Vlismas is the rock star of comedy,” said Xtratime Entertainment Tonderai Mwaita.

The Marondera-born Vlismas, who is not new to Reps Theatre where he has performed several times, is making waves in South Africa as a stand-up comedian and entertainment promoter.

Across the Limpopo, Vlismas won numerous awards, including the South African Comedy Award for best stand-up comedian of the year 2008. He was a finalist in the Yuk Yuk’s Great Canadian Laugh Off in the same year.

In 2010, Vlismas was in the comedy film Outrageous with fellow South African comedians.

Two years ago, he was the stand out participant in Comedy Central Africa’s “Roast of Kenny Kunene and Steve Hofmeyr.”

Vlismas is the only South African stand-up comic to have performed at The Royal Albert Hall, The Hammersmith Apollo, The Lyric Theatre — Shaftesbury Lane and The Best of The Fest showcases.

Mwaita is delighted to have lured back Vlismas.

“He has shared a line-up with Drew Carey, written dialogue for Jerry Springer, and hosted Chris Rock at his club. Vlismas is well known for his outspoken and observational humour.

“His ability to understand and comment on real-life social and economic affairs has earned him a broad fan base and growing corporate client base, as well as invitations to perform in England, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe,” he said.
