HARARE – Rising Zimbabwean swimming sensation Robyn Lee continues to shine after she won four gold medals and one bronze from five races at the Junior African Championship in Zambia over the weekend.
Zimbabwe finished in third position with four gold medals and two bronze with the second bronze medal coming from Peter Wetzlar.
Other Zimbabwean representatives, Roxanne Brown and Ratidzo Mutangadura, failed to live up to expectations.
“Robyn is a humble young lady who takes great pride in representing her country of birth at international level and Zimbabwe Swimming is very sure that this is only the start of a huge swimming career for this hardworking and dedicated swimmer,” Zimbabwe Aquatic Union president Mary Kloppers said.
South Africa came first after finishing with 58 medals – 32 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze while Egypt was second with 48 medals – five gold, 25 silver and 18 bronze.
Namibia were fourth while Algeria completed the top five positions.
The event only takes place every two years, and gives the swimmers the opportunity to measure their standard against the rest of the continent.
