HARARE – Castle Premiership champions Dynamos will honour the club’s outstanding players for the just-ended season, which saw the Glamour Boys successfully retain their league title.
DeMbare were crowned champions of Zimbabwean football for a third year in a row in stunning fashion, pipping Highlanders and Harare City to the coveted trophy on goal difference on the final day of an intriguing season.
The three teams ended the campaign tied on 54 points only for DeMbare to win the title on goal difference following a 2-0 win against Black Mambas coupled by Harare City’s 2-2 draw against CAPS United.
Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha yesterday confirmed the development to the Daily News but could not disclose the actual date for the awards ceremony.
It’s also not yet clear whether BancABC, DeMbare’s premier sponsors for the past three years, will bankroll this year’s awards.
“We really appreciate what the players and the technical team have done for the club and they have to get reward for their achievement,” Chikengezha said.
“The team did exceptionally well in the just-ended season and the executive will meet this week to decide on a date that we can thank our players for their fighting spirit.
“It was quite a difficult season for everyone at Dynamos and our players defied all odds to lift the league championship, for a third year in a row for that matter.”
Midfielder Denver Mukamba, who joined South African club Bidvest Wits and the end of the season, was crowned the club’s best player last year.
