UFIC member releases debut album

HARARE – United Family International Church member and former John “Mr Fantastic” Mutoko’s backing vocalist Rumbidzai Chaleka Gatawa aka Rumbie released her debut gospel album last week.

The album titled Zvinoita Nyasha has eight tracks and was recorded at Lyton Studios.

Gatawa said her supportive husband Tinevimbo made the recording possible.

“I owe my success to my husband Tinevimbo Gatawa, may God bless him for his unwavering support given in coming up with this album,” said the 22-year-old mother of one.

Songs on the album include Mwaka weNyasha, Hapachina Kutukwa, Gamuchira Jesu, Mhinduro yaMwari, Musakanganwe and Ndovimba Newe.

The first three songs were composed by Tinevimbo whose Royal Studios is responsible for marketing the album.

Commenting on the album, Brian Ngolomi of Lyton Studios said Zvinoita Nyasha is a powerful project.

“We have been working with a number of artistes at Lyton Studios but Rumbie has taken us aback considering her massive talent.

“Zvinoita Nyasha is a serious and powerful project and if marketed well the album will go places,” he said.

Over the years, Gatawa was working with gospel musician Mutoko as a backing vocalist before helping her brother-in-law Temson Gatawa on his debut album Mwari Mugonesi last year.

“I featured Mutoko on a number of his projects as a backing vocalist since I was still at high school in Rimuka around 2007.

“My experience with Mutoko’s Overcomers band moulded me into a real artiste and it helped me to boost my confidence stage wise,” she said.

Gatawa carved her niche in music at a tender age in Kadoma.

“I discovered my musical talent way back when I was a little child in Kadoma where I was born and raised. I used to sing in church choir, by then I used to go to AFM and at school I was part of the Scripture Union,” said Gatawa.
