DJ Munya’s court appeal thrown out

HARARE – A Harare magistrate has dismissed Star FM DJ Munyaradzi Milimo’s application for refusal of further remand.

DJ Munya, as he is affectionately known, is accused of masterminding the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Tinashe Magorimbo.

He is jointly charged with Taurai Jani and Mohammed Matare.

Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe remanded Milimo to January 6.

Through his lawyer Archibold Madzima, Milimo made the application on the basis that the latter has been placed on remand for too long, a scenario he said was affecting his work.

DJ Munya was granted bail in June this year after High Court Judge Joseph Musakwa ordered his release on bail.

He was ordered to surrender his passport, report to the police every Friday and not to interfere with State witnesses as part of his bail conditions.

Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira opposed bail and told the court that Milimo is facing a serious and complex offence and that pathologists are still to file a report pending serving of indicts from the High Court.

She argued that DJ Munya has been on bail for a short period of less than six months.

Allegations against the trio arose after Magorimbo died due to suspected poisoning.

This was after he allegedly failed to pay DJ Munya $5 000 “compensation” for having an illicit affair with his wife.

The court heard that Magorimbo allegedly gave DJ Munya a part payment of $1 000 through Jani and Matare in February this year.

It is alleged Magorimbo later became evasive, prompting DJ Munya to enlist the services of Jani and Matare to force him to pay.

Magorimbo went missing in May, before he was eventually seen at his flat by his wife on May 18, naked with both hands tied with a rope.

He later died at West End Clinic, where he had been admitted in the intensive care unit.
