HARARE – Harare City Council has commissioned five youth-friendly HIV treatment centres.

Bernard Manyenyeni, the Harare mayor,  said it was imperative that everyone contributes towards alleviating the plight of youths living positively with HIV.

“Our desire as Harare is to see our young people grow up happy and healthy,” Manyenyeni said in a speech read on his behalf recently.

“There is a lot that needs to be done in our clinics as well as the communities to assist young people with various challenges they face.”

Health centres at Wilkins, Rutsanana, Mabvuku, Rujeko and Hatcliffe will provide opportunistic infections treatment and anti-retroviral drugs to adolescents.

Africaid, which is a community-based organisation focusing on HIV treatment and prevention programmes integration, is the local authority’s partner on the project.
