HARARE – After watching the videos Gara Muberevere and Gogodera by Prince Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa – a grandson to the late Skokiaan composer Augustine Machona Musarurwa- one is left wondering why such a talented remains relatively unknown.

Despite a four-year career that has spawned three albums, Musarurwawas only thrust into the limelight through his participation in PaChihera’s hot video Runonzi Rudo which has taken Zimbabwe by storm.

“I have done live shows at private functions and corporate events,” said the 24 year old.

“I have also performed live at Jameson Hotel and in Chiredzi, Kariba and Victoria Falls.”

Interestingly Musarurwa’s salvation has come through featuring on the album by his long-time backing vocalist.

“I have composed songs for PaChihera’s new album Runonzi Rudo. PaChihera is my niece; she has worked with me as a backing vocalist and our relations are growing stronger.”

The Harare-based guitarist and vocalist is currently furthering his music knowledge at the Zimbabwe College of Music.

“I have been in the music industry for 4 years and to date I have released 3 albums namely Kurarama, Gara Muberevere and Gogodera. I compose all my songs alone and my tracks are in Shona, English and Nyanja,” he said.

“I have three videos and am currently in the process of putting together a new DVD album from my latest release Gogodera. In the next five years I could be Oliver Mutukudzi’s successor as I plan to go international.”

Musarurwa, like many other local artistes, is disappointed by the lack of recognition and support for upcoming artistes from local promoters.

“Challenges make us strong in the music industry but I am disturbed because some local promoters shun upcoming artistes. International promoters have surprisingly turned out to be more supportive in my case,” said the Gogoderasinger.

“I feel honoured because I will be touring the United Kingdom (UK) next year. It is a great opportunity for me to export the Zimbabwean culture through music.”

Musarurwa features his girlfriend Shamiso Nduru Muzavazi as a backing vocalist on some of his songs.

“I would like to thank Shammie my girlfriend for her support. She featured on my second album called Gara Muberevere and the video. It is also great working with her as a backing vocalist.

‘I believe music is my blood. Remember I am the grandson of the famous composer of the internationally famous Skokiaan,” said the upcoming musician.
