EDITOR — I recently had the chance to visit a relative at a State hospital in Harare.
Notably the situation of the quality of food has not improved despite the dollarisation and the availability of food in this country.
I wonder if the relevant authorities are deliberately saving food by making sure that it is so badly prepared that even the patients fail to eat it, or it is a fact that the government cannot provide better food for sick patients.
I believe that the ministry of Health should do something to ensure that patients get food that is appetising and palatable instead of the usual cabbage and sadza that seems to be the order of the day in the hospitals.
I believe that the quality of food that one receives even in hospital can determine how quickly a person recovers.
Is cabbage the only relish that hospitals can afford for patients?
Or is it the cooks as well that have developed the I-do-not-care attitude towards their work?
If this is the case, I believe there are many people out there who are looking for jobs and could prepare better meals if given the chance.
I always feel sorry for patients who do not have relatives close by to provide them with hot and appetising meals.
I would like to further urge the ministry to look into the food issue in hospitals and make sure that better meals are provided for the speedy recovery of the patients.
Minister where there is a will there is always a way.
Let us all take our responsibilities and our jobs seriously and nurse our patients to better health.
