Glen View rapist caged 16 years

HARARE – A 37-year-old Glen View 7 man has been jailed for 16 years for raping his five-year-old niece.

Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya initially sentenced Wilbert Chipunza to 18 years in prison but suspended two years on condition he does not commit an offence of a sexual nature within five years of his release.

The State proved that on October 22, Chipunza was left in the care of his niece and her brother after their mother, the accused’s sister, had gone to a funeral.

Chipunza took advantage of the situation and sent the juvenile’s brother to buy some refreshments. He took the girl into the house before locking the doors and windows.

When the complainant’s brother returned, he was denied entry into the house by Chipunza, who claimed the young brother always beat his sister.

Chipunza then removed the girl’s clothes and raped her.

The girl later narrated the ordeal to her mother two days later when she returned home.

They proceeded to make a police report, leading to Chipunza’s arrest.
