HARARE – Zifa Northern Region Division One log leaders ZPC Kariba are three points away from qualifying for the Castle Premiership after thrashing Powermasters 6-2 at Chaminuka Stadium over the weekend.
ZPC are now 10 points clear of second-placed Twalumba after the league reversed their decision to award three points to Twalumba in their disputed match against DC Academy.
Jostein Mathuthu’s men are now on top with 68 points with four games remaining in the league and they will be promoted with a win this weekend.
“Yes, we are now closer but we are urging our players to remain focused,” ZPC assistant coach Oliver Mataba told the Daily News.
“We worked very hard to reach where we are, thanks to the commitment shown by our players throughout the season. We are facing Flame Lilly in our next game and we hope to collect maximum points. By their nature, teams like Flame Lily want to spoil the party, but the players are ready for the challenge and I don’t see them losing points easily.”
Meanwhile, Twalumba beat Flame Lily 1-0 at the weekend to maintain their slim hope of winning the title.
Meanwhile, Commando Bullets were the biggest winners at the weekend after demolishing relegation threatened Forresters 6-0.
