HARARE – Zimbabwe international Pieter Joubert was at the weekend named Old Georgians Player of the Year following an outstanding season with the Lion Lager National Rugby League (NRL) finalists.
The loose-head prop, who has been capped eight times by Zimbabwe, shrugged off the challenge of club captain and his bother-in-in-law Jacques Leitao, who had to be content with the Coach’s Award.
Wing Kuda Chiwanza was named Back of the Year while lock forward Scott Flowers was chosen Forward of the Year.
Loose forward Farai Jijita was the club’s Top Try Scorer while Sables flyhalf Boyd Rouse finished the season as the Top Point Scorer.
Flank Rees Surtees was the Junior Player of the Year while Travolta Chipendu earned the Most Dedicated Player of the Year accolade.
Meanwhile, wing Kuwanza won the Mahaja-Maguvu Award, a category introduced in honour of Andrew Majaha and Hardlife Maguvu, two OGs players who died in 2011 and earlier this year respectively after being involved in a car crash on their way from training.
OGs lost 29-27 to Old Hararians in the NRL final last month.
