BULAWAYO – Dendera musician Allan “Sonny” Chimbetu has been selected to officially open the Hustlers Night Club Road to Fame Talent Search Competition in Bulawayo on Thursday.
The talent search showcase, which was launched in 2005, is set to kick off this weekend. Chimbetu is expected to infuse some glamour into the month-long annual competition.
Simon Gama, Hustlers Night Club entertainment manager, told the Daily News yesterday that this year’s edition has attracted slightly over 40 artistes.
“We have chosen Allan Chimbetu to pave the way for our talent showcase with an all-night gig at our venue,” said Gama.
“Having worked with him several times recently, we can only expect nothing short of a performance-filled night. The actual competition is beginning this coming weekend.”
This year’s competition will cover more art forms than previously.
“All we intend to do is to ensure we give a platform to all Zimbabwean upcoming artistes in all genres including cultural groups. We want them to show what they can do” said the Hustlers entertainment manager
“This is an annual event that we usually undertake in June and July but this year we decided to push it to November. We are happy with the response from the artistes,” he added.
The competition will be run on all the four weekends of next month. Winners of the first three weekends of November will battle it out in the final weekend to determine the ultimate winners.
Gama is delighted with the calibre of judges who will oversee the selection process of a competition that will also be graced by some of Zimbabwe’s top musicians. Guest musicians set to perform during the month-long competition include Seunononga singer Guspy Warrior, Ngoni Kambarami, Sniper Storm, Freeman, Trevor Dongo and Winky D.
Hustlers Night Club Road to Fame Talent Search Competition winners will be presented with prizes during the festive season in December on a date yet to be decided.
