HARARE – FC Platinum striker Nelson Maziwisa has been ruled out of the Zvishavane Derby against cross town rivals Shabanie Mine today due to suspension.
Maziwisa, last season’s Golden Boot winner in the Castle Premiership, has picked up three yellow cards ahead of the clash at Mandava Stadium.
Other notable players suspended this weekend include Black Mambas hitman Nicholas Alifandika, Highlanders defender Bruce Tshuma, Chicken Inn midfielder Danny Phiri, Black Rhinos striker Philip Marufu.
Platinum coach Lloyd Mutasa bemoaned Maziwisa’s loss.
“It’s a big let-down considering that he (Maziwisa) was always in the thick of things so we obviously going to miss his services,” Mutasa told the Daily News.
“However, I would like to believe that ours is a big institution, we registered a lot of players and it is also an opportunity for other players to step up and be counted.”
Maziwisa, who was on loan at Shabanie Mine from Platinum last season, said he was disappointed to miss the famous Zvishavane clash.
“It’s always a bitter pill to swallow to miss out on such an epic clash, there’s always that push to perform when you play in a game of this magnitude,” said Maziwisa.
“Even though I will not be able to play a crucial role on the field, I will still be giving my full backing to the team from the terraces.”
Apart from Maziwisa, Platinum will also be missing the services of Ray Sibanda and Ali Sadiki through injury.
Last weekend Platinum lost to Triangle 2-1 in their last league tie, blowing their slim chance of winning a maiden Premiership title since promotion in 2011.
