HARARE – ZPC KARIBA have played down title talk despite the team maintaining top position in the log table as the Northern Region Division One season moves towards the final phase.
ZRC, who have amassed 65 points, beat former Premiership side Gunners 1-0 on Saturday to keep their seven-point advantage over Twalumba in the second tier division.
But despite that fine run, ZPC Kariba assistant coach Oliver Mataba has remained calm and believes concentration will be key to their promotion quest.
“It is too early to talk about championship, we just have to take each game as it comes. We still have five games before the end of the season so the race is still on," Mataba told the Daily News yesterday.
“We want to continue doing well and try to win every game that we play. We have a very strong side. We are going to take as much points as we can and see where that takes us. We don’t want to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. We want to play our normal game in the remaining matches.”
Twalumba kept pace with the leaders after beating former Powermasters 2-1.
Third-placed Flame Lilly were the biggest winners at the weekend after thrashing relegation threatened Banket 3-0 while Mushowani Stars were held to a goalless draw but they still remain in the title race equation.
At the bottom, Forrester recorded their 22th defeat of the season after going down 2-0 to ZRP Morris to remain at 15 points.
