Guspy in rare Tuku, Macheso match-up


MASVINGO – Self-proclaimed Zimbabwe Dancehall king Emmanuel “Guspy Warrior” Manyeruke has been given a rare opportunity to share the stage with sungura kingpin Alick Macheso and music legend Oliver Mtukudzi in a Tuku celebratory gig at Mucheke Stadium on Friday.

Guspy Warrior, the son of legendary Gospel music icon Mechanic Manyeruke, has been roped in to cater for the many Masvingo youths expected to attend the high-profile gig.

Jazz 105 proprietor Josh Hozheri, one of the promoters of the music concert dubbed Tuku Celebration Show said the city of Masvingo will be one big party on Friday.

“Masvingo and its music fans should brace themselves for a lifetime show,” said Hozheri.

“The show pitting superstars Tuku and Macheso, alongside young musician-of-the-moment Guspy will definitely lighten up the city. This is an early Christmas present.”

The veteran promoter added that the Masvingo gig would be a follow-up to the Tuku Tribute Show that was held in Harare at the end of September.

“This is an after-party for Tuku Tribute Show that featured international musicians like Hugh Masekela. We felt it necessary for the people of Masvingo to celebrate with Tuku through a show involving Tuku himself and sungura music king Macheso,” Hozheri told the Daily News.

Upcoming urban grooves group, Masvingo Unlimited and Guspy have been tasked with the duty of raising the flag on behalf of the country’s young musicians.

“Guspy and this group Masvingo Unlimited are youthful and they were invited to cater for the youthful fans who are espected to grace the show while Tuku and Macheso who have been in the music industry for a long time will dazzle their traditional followers from the older generation,” he added.

Hozheri has urged the people of Masvingo to come in their numbers Tuku and Macheso rarely play together in venues outside Harare.
