A HARARE man allegedly masqueraded as a taxi operator before robbing an unsuspecting passenger of property valued at $1 250, a Harare court has heard.
Alexio Kagore, 23, of Mbare yesterday appeared before magistrate Elijah Makomo facing armed robbery charges.
Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira told the court that in committing the alleged offence, Kagore teamed up with three accomplices, Leon Nyakudirwa, Tawanda Gudo and John Nyashanu.
The four, who were driving a Toyota Spacio, were armed with a pistol, knife and a knobkerrie.
It is the State’s case that on September 13, this year around 10pm, the complainant Pardon Chimbuya was at corner Samora Machel Avenue and Fifth Street intending to proceed to Eastlea.
The quartet approached Chimbuya and offered him transport.
Along the way, Kagore allegedly produced a pistol while his two accomplices seated at the back produced a knife and knobkerrie.
They reportedly robbed Chimbuya of his laptop, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and $250 cash before dumping him.
Chimbuya made a police report.
Kagore was spotted by police driving the gateway vehicle in the company of his accomplices on September 21.
The police chased the vehicle.
Kagore and his friends allegedly abandoned the vehicle and took to their feet.
He (Kagore) was arrested on October 20, after police received information about his whereabouts and nothing was recovered.
He was remanded in custody to November 5 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
